Samoa cookies

Girl scout cookie season has arrived! And to get in the festive spirit, I baked up a batch (even though my girl scout days are long gone). Samoa cookies were always my favorite type of girl scout cookie, although I was always confused by the name. Not sure if it has anything to do with the Pacific Islanders. Can anyone illuminate the reason behind the name? Apparently now the Girl Scout Assocation has officially changed their name to “Caramel Delights”. Although mine did not have any caramel; just coconut and chocolately goodness. Thanks to Isa’s new book for the recipe!
